Interdisciplinary Digital Humanities Programme Brings Together Technology, Culture, and Society

An intensive international programme focusing on Digital Humanities and Digital Transformation will take place between 11–15 May 2026, bringing together students and academics to explore how digitalisation is reshaping culture, society, and knowledge from an interdisciplinary perspective.

The programme examines the growing connections between the humanities and emerging digital technologies, encouraging participants to engage with digital transformation in both critical and creative ways. Topics such as the Metaverse, Artificial Intelligence, Data Analytics, Blockchain, virtual identity, and digital ethics form the core of the academic content.

Academic and Experiential Learning Week (11–13 May)

The programme will begin on 11 May with an Opening Ceremony and Welcome Session, followed by introductory lectures on Digitalisation, Culture, Society, and Knowledge. Key academic sessions include lectures on Digital Transformation and the Humanities, Ethics, Creativity, and Human Values in the Age of AI, and a panel discussion on interdisciplinary approaches to digital knowledge

On 12 May, participants will engage in hands-on workshops focusing on Metaverse technologies, virtual worlds, and digital cultural spaces, alongside lectures on avatars, virtual identity, and immersive environments. The day will also include a VR Lab visit, allowing students to experience immersive technologies firsthand.

The programme continues on 13 May with sessions exploring technology, society, and sustainable futures, as well as experiential visits that connect digital transformation with real-world applications, including an Agropark visit

Cultural and Field Visits (14–15 May)

In addition to academic activities, the programme integrates rich cultural experiences. On 14 May, participants will take part in a cultural visit to Southeastern Turkey, including Şanlıurfa. On 15 May, visits will continue in Gaziantep, featuring historically and culturally significant sites such as Göbekli Tepe and Halfeti, offering participants a deeper understanding of cultural heritage within a global and digital context

Online and Metaverse-Based Activities

The programme also includes online lectures and metaverse-based sessions, where courses will be conducted in virtual environments using digital avatars. Highlights include an immersive underwater experience guided by Delia Lake, focusing on the effects of global warming on marine life, and sessions on Metaliteracy and Digital Citizenship led by Dr. Val Hill. Participants will also explore Virtual Ability Island, learning about accessibility and community support in digital and virtual world.

Final Presentations and Outcomes

At the end of the programme, students will deliver final presentations, showcasing interdisciplinary digital projects developed throughout the week. By the conclusion of the programme, participants will have strengthened their critical thinking, digital literacy, communication, and problem-solving skills, while gaining experience in multicultural and interdisciplinary collaboration.

This programme represents a significant step toward understanding and shaping the digital future of the humanities in an international and innovative learning environment.
